Speech & Learning App for Children with Special Needs: Candlelight Voice

Introducing the Candlelight Voice App — an interactive tool created to support children with speech challenges and special learning needs using technology.

Technology has always been a powerful amplifier of human potential. For children with speech challenges, communication disorders, or special learning needs, the right digital tool can be genuinely transformative. This is why we built the Candlelight Voice App.

What Is the Candlelight Voice App?

Candlelight Voice is an interactive mobile application designed to support speech development, literacy, and communication skills in children with autism, ADHD, speech-language delays, and related conditions.

The app uses evidence-based approaches including visual supports, gamification, and structured progression to make skill-building fun, accessible, and measurable.

Key Features

  • Picture Exchange Communication (PECS) module: Helps nonverbal or minimally verbal children communicate needs and wants using images
  • Speech sound practice: Interactive exercises targeting individual phonemes with visual and auditory feedback
  • Literacy games: Dyslexia-friendly reading activities with adjustable fonts, spacing, and colour overlays
  • Parent dashboard: Track your child's progress, session length, and skill milestones over time
  • Offline mode: Full functionality without internet access, designed for families in low-connectivity areas

Designed With and For Families

The app was co-developed with speech-language therapists, occupational therapists, and — crucially — parents of children with special needs. User testing involved over 50 families across Nigeria, ensuring the interface is intuitive and the content is culturally relevant.

Free to Access

In line with Candlelight Foundation's mission, the core version of Candlelight Voice is free to download and use. Premium features supporting therapist-guided programmes are available through our clinic.

Coming Soon

Phase two of the app will include social skills modules, emotion recognition games, and caregiver training content. Sign up for updates through our contact page.
